Thankfulness!

I am thankful for being able to eat with family and friends!

Good food and a warm kitchen are what makes a house a home. I loved my Nona’s (Italian for Grandma) home, because she was magnificent at stretching a buck when it came to decorating and food. Like a true Italian, she valued beautification in every area of her life. So did my amazing mother-in-law. Margaret Ann’s tables looked like Martha Stewart herself decorated them for the President of the USA. These ladies made the day twinkle and sparkle! A shout out to my mom for making the worlds best cheese ball and deviled eggs! Sharing food is a great connection time. This year with both my Nona and MIL in heaven, reflecting on their legacy, I am very thankful that they cherished family time, eating together, and sharing holidays, honoring their very own flair and uniqueness!

What part of your family traditions are you most thankful for around Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving!

The power of 1

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday of mine. I especially enjoy thinking about all of the family memories attached to this wonderful day. The food part of this holiday use to stress me out and make me elated all in the same minute. I have found ways to successfully conquer the “I ate too much” blues. Here are a few hacks I use to enjoy the day and still stay on track so I can deal with Black Friday deals and the weekend following. You know us ladies like to shop! Bonus tip: I now do all my Christmas shopping online thru www.shopthefrontdoor.com.

Thanksgiving Day hacks for survival!

  1. Begin the day with getting in a workout! This will set you up for the damage that you are about to do.
  2. Drink lots of fluids so that you are hydrated. This is at least a couple of bottles of water or around one liter.
  3. Just 1 alcoholic drink – If you do drink, just have 1! Don’t waste your calories on a beverage you can have at any time of the year. Save it for delicious faves.
  4. Just 1 serving – I only allow myself one serving of the foods prepared. I can stuff a plate pretty full (if you don’t mind your food touching each other). I choose them wisely and enjoy each bite immensely! No seconds. They are just mashed potatoes, you can have them again some other day!
  5. Just 1 bite of dessert!  – I am in the minority of people who do not like pumpkin pie, so desert are usually not that great for me being a chocolate lover. But every once in a while someone blesses me by bringing chocolate yummies! I may take more than one dessert, but I only allow for 1 bite of each. They are very small portions, but it makes a great way to end the Thanksgiving feast. If you love pumpkin pie, eat the piece! No seconds and ONLY ONE!
